Alice Harper

Child & Adolescent Therapist and Specialist Teacher

Alice Harper Child & Adolescent Therapist and Specialist Teacher

A qualified Child and Adolescent Counsellor (BACP and PCSR registered) and Specialist teacher, Alice’s training at The Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education included training from Dan Hughes, Bessel Van der Kolk, and Éadaoin Bhreathnach, focussing in her dissertation on integrating their approaches to work with early years children and their parents. In her clinical placements with Kids Company and Solace Women’s Aid, Alice worked with children who had suffered developmental and inter-relational trauma, and she has since worked in both Primary and Secondary schools.

Specialising in working with children and young people who have suffered trauma and loss, Alice uses an integrative framework with a focus on attachment and a relational way of working. Her approach incorporates the arts and play as a means of facilitating emotional exploration, as well as also being informed by neuroscience, body work, psychodynamic, and trauma-informed theories. She is also interested in using techniques such as mindfulness, breathing, body scanning and yoga to help children and adolescents regulate.

She believes strongly in the need to work with the significant people in a child’s life, including both parents and professionals, and is developing her DDP- and Theraplay-informed practice to support her work with the parent–child dyad. She has worked collaboratively with the Parent Child Clinic as a research assistant for several years and receives regular supervision from them. She is also a Strategic Attachment Lead, having completed training with Louise Michelle Bombèr.

She is passionate about the therapeutic value of the outdoors and its potential for developing self-esteem and healthy attachments. Alice has worked as a teacher in forest schools and alternative education projects for several years. She currently runs a part-time Early Years outdoor project with an attachment-based philosophy. Alice is part of the TouchBase Bristol Centre where she plays a significant role in both the education and therapy teams. She is available for Seguridad, Seguridad Plus, individual therapy and dyadic therapy informed by Theraplay, DDP and SAI. For more information, please contact info@touchbase.org.uk
